Sustainable.
High quality. Local.

QCulture is committed to protecting Australia’s wild fish population and meeting the growing demand for high quality and locally sourced seafood, for local and international markets.

QCulture at Woorim Beach, Bribie Island

QCulture is being developed at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island. We are committed to protecting Australia’s wild fish population by sustainably producing high quality and locally sourced seafood that meets the growing demand of the Australian and international market.

Meeting increasing demand

As global population increases, demand for water and protein rises. One third of the world’s population (2 billion people) consume a diet primarily consisting of animal protein, whether fish, poultry or red meats. This supply of protein is reaching exhaustion. The consumption of animals and wild fish is becoming environmentally unacceptable.

The world currently produces protein in three ways:

  • Farming domesticated animals (cattle, sheep, pigs etc)
  • Fishing wild and farmed fish
  • Growing cereals and vegetables.

Proven principles for fish farming

At QCulture, we aim to use proven engineering principles with the latest technology and equipment to create farming systems specifically designed to produce premium aquatic product in an environmentally and economically sustainable way.

We will achieve sustainable fish farming by:

  • Developing technology to ensure premium fish are produced economically with minimal impact on the environment
  • Striving to be Australia’s leading Aquaculture provider
  • Creating a secure sound environment for the culture species, which replicates their natural habitat
  • Using technology and management practices to further reduce volume of water per kilo of protein
  • Striving to develop feeds with minimal or no fishmeal content to create a sound sustainable environment.

Creating environmental and economic benefits

Growing fish alleviates the need to harvest wild fish from the ocean and helps to ensure environmental protection. Along with responsible management of high-quality organic waste and ultra-filtered wastewater, QCulture’s RAS facility is environmentally friendly.

The QCulture Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) will create full-time and part-time employment for those involved in the development and ongoing operations of the facility.

Development timeline

QCulture has lodged a development application with the Moreton Bay Regional Council which can be viewed here.

We will provide the community with updates as the application progresses.
